Trash the Dress Navarre Beach, Florida- Dan & Lindsey

Dan and Lindsey were married on Navarre Beach, Florida and i shared their gorgeous wedding. If you missed it, click here to read all about their big day.

Two days after, we got together for a trash the dress shoot. Lindsey decided to purchase a separate dress just for the fun occasion and i LOVED what she chose. So ladies, if you want to do something like this but don’t want to get your actual wedding dress dirty, you can always decide to pick up another dress!

A reason many couples opt for a day after or trash the dress session is because as wonderful as the day of your wedding is, it can go so fast and it can be tough to fit in alone time with your new spouse! This is the perfect way to get photos to hang on the wall, spend some time together and get those romantic portraits maybe you couldn’t before and also let's us get a little more creative since we're not as concerned with getting the dress wet, dirty, or messing up the makeup for later in the day. So no, you don't have to actually trash it! just a fun term to wear it again!

A couple tips if you're wanting to do a trash the dress photoshoot!

1- Brides often do wear their actual wedding dress, knowing they have planned already to get it professionally cleaned from the big day.

2-Do the dresses actually get trashed?- Often, no. Unless the intention is to trash it (like paint or mud) but brides often don't realize that many weddings aside from beach weddings.. their dresses get black with dirt so often the water will help wash a little away!

3-Timeline- 1-2 days after the wedding and you're rested! It's before you get them professionally cleaned or boxed. Although many bring them back out after a fitness journey, a big anniversary or because they decided it finally was for them.

4-few extra--

-bring your sass and adventure!  lots of kissing your spouse, and don't be afraid to show your personality!

-The best times for trash the dress are right after sunrise or right before sunset

-think about the outfits. men if you wear a white shirt, don't wear an under shirt, and watch the crazy boxers/briefs. They can show through.

-Fun chunky jewelry. if you used more traditional jewelry, now is a great time to use something more colorful!

Bridal Portraits After Session- Michelle

A wedding is a whirlwind of events, gone in the blink of an eye. There’s little more important to a perfectly executed event than an organized timeline. The day goes so quickly though, and as much planning goes into it, unexpected events can happen to shorten the time for portraits.  It’s a day when friends and family come from all over to celebrate, so if you’re wanting lots of photographs with just you and your spouse, consider a day after session.

Maybe you wanted to drive a little further to a waterfall, desert, mountains, or special location and it won’t fit into your wedding day. Use that beautiful dress again and capture moments perfect for wall portraits. Sometimes called a trash the dress session, you don’t really have to destroy that gorgeous gown, but now that it might have picked up some dirt, you might be more daring like Michelle! (she climbed in this tree by herself, during a very buggy evening!)

After sessions are becoming more popular with today's bride, a way to celebrate with her groom again, or getting back into the dress! There are endless reasons, but one I personally find is.. we spent money on that gown, why not wear it again and get more fabulous photographs!?

If you can believe it, this area is in her yard. that's right, huge trees, tons of grass... i've been living in the desert too long. Luckily i'm going back soon!

Michelle did a perfect job in front of the camera and always full of adventure, even in the most odd-feeling poses made it look flawless.

What do you think of after sessions? would you do one?

1960's Wedding Dress Fashion Shoot- Alamogordo, New Mexico

Once in a while when i go into town and feeling like shopping, i go into some antique shops. I found this 1960's wedding gown, great condition and beyond beautiful. it inspired this whole shoot and details! Jessica is the perfect model and also my hair stylist here in town at Shear Madness Hair Design Studio. She is constantly experimenting with gorgeous hair color and went light pink just for the shoot! The makeup artist Breeanna also works at Shear Madness and were a perfect team! Erika my cake boss neighbor designed and made the beautiful cake you'll see.

It’s important for photographers do have their own personal shoots. learning to expand my style using new lighting techniques and also showing you what i love to do! This is a good example of trash the dress or day after session that still keeps the dress fairly clean.

a great reason to do a day after session is to get all those creative and crazy shots maybe in a special location without taking time away from all your loved ones on your wedding day. Time to spend with your spouse and just getting those big wall portraits you’ll want to keep up forever. it doesn’t even have to be the same year. a great gift could be getting back into them for your anniversary and getting some updated photos with a more fashion-feel look.

i do these shoots for me, it helps keep my motivated and the creative ideas flowing. It also helps me try out new techniques so when i’m photographing a client, all the kinks and things that don’t work are figured out. i get to work with some fabulous people. so here's a few i wanted to share!... okay.. more than a few.

This cake though! i'm basically in love. we made a pinterest board and talked about what we'd like to see. because of the dress, i wanted it to be gray and pink with a new spin on a 1960's theme. lace, flowers that look real... she nailed it and i'm constantly impressed with her hard work, how amazing her cakes look.. and yes.. they taste amazing too! this was strawberry cake with lemonade frosting.

Sometimes when creatives sit down with an idea and bring it to life, it doesn't turn out as imagined, but i have to say, this is exactly what I thought and more! the women that helped were just as excited and me, and it brought the whole thing to a new level!

If you want to see the entire edited gallery and even purchase a few prints for your home follow this link. you can order right from the site and the images will come to your door. nifty. Don't forget, there's a short behind the scenes video below!

Thank you Samantha, Erika, Jessica, and Breeanna. i truly couldn't have gotten the vision i had succeed without all of your talents and input.

Trash the Dress Beauty Portraits- Erika

I've been beyond blessed with this move to the middle of nowhere. Every time i go home after spending time with friends, I get to think of the wonderful people that have made such an impact on me, and make me feel loved. She knows exactly when i need a hug, someone to just come over, someone to talk to, and of course when i need to be silly.Erika and her husband are an incredible couple to look up to.They have 4 girls and when i go over i love the dynamic they have together. They have such a great balance of putting their family first, but still spending time with all us crazies.

Erika came to me this summer with this idea! for her 10 year anniversary, she wanted to surprise her husband with photos of her in her wedding dress. She's always a hottie, no doubt. But she worked extra hard to look AMAZING in her dress. we went to Alamogordo and Cloudcroft here in New Mexico and got some seriously fabulous photos. some of our favorites!

Erika has such an incredible smile, and i couldn't believe how awesome she did in the cold snow!

I think this is such a beautiful gift for her husband. she ordered an album (that i showed on instagram and i'll share again on fb!) and now i need one for my office too! A trash the dress session was a perfect way to celebrate her marriage, get in even better shape, and put on that gorgeous dress again! not sure about boudoir but want to surprise your loved one? this could be the perfect solution!

Erika, i'm so glad you came to me with this idea, and wanted me to photograph your hot self! it was such a fun afternoon, and so glad we could spend time together, laughing at one another how we both looked crazy running in the snow. you're truly beautiful inside and out. Happy 10 year Anniversary!

Minnehaha Falls, Minnesota- Trash the Dress

When Rachelle told me she was interested in doing a trash the wedding dress session, i was thrilled! They got married last summer, and since i was in it i wasn't able to photograph it. which was fine since i was the matron of honor ;) but her dress and details were over the top gorgeous so i'm pretty happy we got some portraits! I want to point out that normally, the client sees the photos before it's blogged, at least most of the time. However, i wanted Rachelle to see these on the blog first. (she's my best friend.. torture or surprise?... you decide)

i have lots of favorites, but here's a few. oh and i recently fell in love with this first one. Rachelle, you're stunning. Thank you for letting me photograph you. and not just this time, i mean for years :)

Rachelle has always been a gorgeous confident woman who knew exactly how to build me up too. This past year has been even more so! She started hitting the gym harder and the dress fits even better than it did! what a hottie!

Another one of my favorites. it has such a dreamy fairy-tale like feel. i showed my 10 year old niece this photograph and she swore it was in the rainforest ;) we're so sneaky. this branch might seem low, but serious props to them both especially rachelle getting up there in her dress! She trusted me fully and jumped and hopped wherever my crazy brain wanted her to.

Le Sigh. the back of her dress. i adore this image. showing off her curves and beauty.

we chose a beautiful spot, away from people so they could get more cuddly!

Also, thanks for putting up with a slight frustration i was having. yes, one of my cameras broke during this shoot and i was feeling a bit nervous. But that's why we have backups!

The bouquet she put together with flowers in and around her house. The veil and head band were exactly what she wore for her wedding.

can you hold your balance on a small branch in your wedding dress while a photographer tells you to move? prove it. :)

a little picnic. if you look closely, you might recognize some pieces that were decor for her wedding! vases, mason jars, and cute straws.

Dang, i can't forget to thank Michael! He made her laugh, helped her in the tree, did great in front of the camera (in the most manly way possible!) and of course, was my assistant. the sun was STRONG so for a few he held up a reflector/blocking the light. you did great! i know you secretly loved holding the reflector in the air for way too long :)

Every time i shoot, i think yup this is my favorite kind of session. Whelp, it happened again. Weddings are so much fun, and i love meeting and being around families, but there isn't always that extra time to get portraits of you and your spouse and time alone. That's what trash the dress is about. A more relaxed portrait session that shows off those details you worked hard on, and celebrating marriage together again. It always brings up the big day and things they enjoyed or things they remember. This was not long after their 1 year anniversary, such a special way to celebrate!

Rachelle, i'm so thankful for our friendship and love that you trust whatever crazy ideas i have. i mean, getting in the tree.. i was impressed! you've been such a wonderfully loyal friend to me, and are always building me up and there when i need you. In such a small way, i hope that these photographs build you up too, make you feel even more beautiful and bless you. I so enjoy the time we've been able to spend together and can't wait to see you again. we've been best friends for a decade. crazy! now go stare at your gorgeous self more in these photos. cause i have been!
