Underneath the Noise

How often have you thought- I’m just not sure what I should do, or the next step? Or where to begin and I don’t have time. Can I give you something to chew on today? Maybe, just maybe, it’s just underneath the noise in your life. I think more often than not we make it more difficult than it needs to be. If we took just a bit of time to figure out a few things we love, something that makes us come alive and lose track of time, things we like learning about and sometimes that coincides with things we’re naturally gifted at too when we start working on it- if we just got underneath the noise and distractions that a step would become clearer.
What do you consider noise in your life? The noise is checking your phone every time a notification goes off, scrolling for hours rather than sitting quietly in your thoughts and mediation, distractions, it’s your inner critic you allow to tell you where you’re at-the gifts and experiences you have-aren’t enough, the people who question your passions and goals, tasks that seem to take over the in between moments and often times our whole day, our brains when they can’t seem to turn off the to do lists, and entertainment when we seem to have a need to fill every moment with something- white noise. It’s all the things that take away from time we need to make to sit on our thoughts and take action
It’s literally all around and so easily to get sucked in, make excuses and not realize that the reasons we don’t know the steps to take is because we can’t hear with all the noise that constantly bombards us, we aren’t in tune with our gut and heart of a step and often instead listening to the noise that’s on top telling us no matter what- we can’t do it.
How can we possibly get rid of the noise in our life when it seems 24/7. Life is going to be filled with moments we have to be flexible, accidents and tasks we must immediately take care of. But If we can hone in the other moments to take charge or our thoughts, mindset and time we are in control of- we can get rid of the noise and realize what’s underneath is where all the good stuff is.
If you can- this isn’t me but working from home with no kids I am in charge of the rest of the day,
1-wake up 15 minutes earlier, or earlier than kids and spouse to have just a few moments alone.
2-Go for a walk and allow yourself to meditate (and bonus get those steps in to help with health)
4-Journaling to get all the thoughts out that we hold onto- which is one reason I believe in lists, I can’t possibly get underneath the noise if I have to hold onto the noise to remember so get it out- grocery lists, to do’s random thoughts, and then get to the deeper part of journaling. 5
5-Reading to inspire your thoughts. We often feel stuck or uninspired, so read or listen to audibles to get your creative juices flowing and more importantly at least excited!
6-Taking action is a way to get rid of noise. Small clear steps, conversations with goal oriented people also help you get through the noise to feel heared, inspired, clear, and idea filled.
7-I'll Excercising- it helps filter the junk in your life, and last but certainly not least- quieting our minds.
As much as I can tell you things to help clear all the junk that crowds your ideas and excitement about the steps you can take- you can’t get to them if we dont’ learn to quiet our minds. It’s one of the hardest parts. Even in quiet prayer walks I feel the need to constantly asking for something being thankful or just rambling, letting my mind wander on tasks and concerns rather than focusing but to learn how to listen and allow ourselves to feel the right direction is a huge part of getting underneath the noise we have. It’s most important to learn to listen- This is the difficult part this is what we must practice, to learn how to listen to our gut instincts, our deep knowing of our goals and desires and teaching us to feel at peace with decisions we make.
Underneath the noise is where the good stuff is and sometimes also the messy stuff. I know many who keep busy in order not to deal with the underneath trauma and hurt we harbor, I know some perfectionist who also stay busy so that they won’t fail if they’re not trying the desires they know are underneath the noise. But underneath is where all the gut instincts, quiet peace, confidence in decisions, and learning to tune into what’s right for you is. Yes, it’ll bring up some stuff to work on, but who does’t have things to work on. Just the other day at my small group I spoke up that I had worked on not harboring unforgiveness but I was harboring affects of what was done for me, the more I work on something, the deeper it goes to work on something else, junk underneath the junk as I told them. But it’s where healing and understanding and growth happens, and it’s where I know I’m doing exactly what I should be doing without considering the people who don’t matter- I don’t hear the negative thoughts of people that don’t have an affect- it’s where I’m most decisive and peaceful and it’s where I learn to listen rather than just fill the quiet with more noise. It’s the that starts to soften my heart, and makes me a better friend and communicator, it’s where I can talk about my mission and I can do so with intense clarity. That’s what’s underneath the noise. And I want you so badly to experience that too. You can call it meditating or prayer but it’s clarity and purpose just underneath the things in our way.
I want you to be able to do that to help reset, find joy, healing, and confindence in finding yourself. There’s freedom in your intuition and guidance in quietness that can only be experienced. And it’s okay to have your mind wander and find it difficult to just listen after you ask a question, but like anything- practice. Practice pushing the noise away. There’s a quote that says “to know yourself as the being underneath the thinker, the stillness underneath the mental noise the love and joy underneath the pain is freedom, salvation, enlightenment.”
Start practicing today even if you know your purpose, your steps or if you’re deeply stuck. Wherever you are, practice getting rid of the noise whatever works best for you and start feeling like you know your intuition, your confidence in paths, and resetting after the noise has taken over.
