I really love our friendship story- we met for my 30th birthday when she was hired to do my makeup for a photoshoot, we didn’t have much time to chat, stayed in touch only from afar cheering one another on through instagram but during Covid- she was able to visit again, and this time we connected. We had serious conversations, opened up honestly about hurts, and then had some not so serious tequila nights too. She’s a phenomenal woman and i’m so glad to call her a friend.

Migdalia (Micki) is a mental health therapist and coach for almost 15 years, and focusing on trauma therapy, addictions, and couples- primarily women’s relationship difficulties.

M- As a freshmen in college- got my first job as a crisis counselor- the executive director saw so much potential and faith in me, and sometimes that’s all we need sometimes to grow and move forward. I moved up and working in the court house and kept working up and up.

M-We aren’t just our work, we are a whole person through our experiences, and ended up in Virginia. I was in a relationship but it didn’t end up the happily ever after, but it lead me to a cross roads of a stuck point. And for many there’s different events that start waking us up and start making us ask what we want in our life. From there i knew i didn’t want to be in dead end relationships, remain in debt, go back to what i always knew. i wanted to try something new, and the breakup was the catalyst to give me that push to go to Florida. I didn’t have a job, place to live, but i was determined to go.

M- When you are in the state of crisis, you’ll figure it out. And from having nothing to where i am today, it pushed me to the next level, which now i’m steps to open up my practice here in Florida. Academics doesn’t define your character, what does is your life experiences and how you thrive and what you learn from it and what you channel to give to other people.

S- We had a similar experience- coming from Virginia,to Florida completely alone with no backup plan. And i didn’t realize what a big deal it is, and we don’t give ourselves the credit and have the ability and using it to make you brave.

MIcki Rodriguez on growth mindset

M- Women don’t give ourselves enough credit for what we’re capable of and to tap into what we hold.

S- Women especially don’t realize we even have those capabilities until we have to. Tell us about the goals in business-

M- I have my own place which was a goal, and now a wonderful dog name Milo which was a goal of mine! My goal going forward to be the best puppy mom, grow financially, and future ambition. Ideally i want to manifest a wonderful relationship- until now i’ve had learning experiences.

I had goals that were too rigid in the past, and if i didn’t get there it disappointed me, and now it’s to enjoy the journey. To being open to more people and opportunities. Mines more inter-personal.

M- growth and success differs for everyone- whether it’s a lot of money, family, or having a business. for me it’s taking control of money and business and food.

1- don’t be so quick to say I can’t. instead to say YET. which gives yourself the opportunity for growth.

2- Ask yourself when having a set back, what could i have done differently?- instead of judging, it’s a question to empowers you to reflect and see what needs to be changed. we need a little more compassion on seeing setbacks as opportunities to grow.

3- Trying new things!- instead of staying where you are, get yourself out of your comfort zone, fear, and that space you’re comfortable with. When you put yourself in a new space, it exercises courage and when you do that your life will unfold in ways you can’t imagine.

M- a big way to grow is budgeting. It may sound boring, but it’s so much more than expenses and income, you’re going to appreciate what you have and see what you value, and you’re allowing yourself to organize your money so you can create the space for what you what. Budget is telling your money where it goes rather than wondering where it went. It holds your accountable but it shows you what you value.

what growth looks like

It’s more than just looking at tracking, it’s looking forward and becoming the steward of your money and it becomes fun when you see what you can have and telling your money where to go.

The way you see money- the relationship you have with money shows a scarcity or abundance mindset.

M- How to get unstuck- Not just the thought but belief system, it takes time for the belief to change. I use the ABC worksheet. A- the event B- what are your thoughts. A feeling is different than a thought, so identify what the thoughts are coming from. We can start shifting our feelings by targeting our thoughts.

M- To just get started: WRITE. you are rewiring your mind and empowered with your voice. Became an active listener to yourself. It really taps into the feeling and where you can start taking control.
